The program is designed to help students consolidate and deepen their knowledge of the foundations of contemporary psychoanalysis. The first year program offers an overview of contemporary theoretical approaches, balanced with the clinical realities therapists face. Some topics addressed include: the basic paradigm shift from classical to contemporary theories, infant/toddler development and research and its application to the clinical situation, affect and attunement, boundary dilemmas, the therapeutic process, therapeutic impasses, transference and countertransference. Additional years focus on clinical issues of special interest to each participating group. Students are also encouraged to experience personal psychotherapy. ICP
