Veronica D. Abney, Ph.D., LCSW is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Los Angeles and Santa Monica specializing in the treatment of child, adolescent and adult survivors of childhood sexual trauma. She is a training & supervising analyst at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis where she also co-chairs the Ad hoc Committee for Diversity, has taught seminars on dissociation in the psychoanalytic training program and has facilitated programs related to diversity. Dr. Abney is a past president of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children and has taught numerous workshops around the country on issues related to countertransference and dissociation in the treatment of adult survivors and on cross-cultural treatment. She is particularly interested in the application of modern psychoanalytic theories in cross-cultural practice and countertransference issues that arise in the treatment of adult survivors. Dr. Abney’s doctoral research was on African-American psychoanalysts in the United States and their history and presence in the field of psychoanalysis.
