I received my Ph.D. in academic psychology (personality/social) at UCLA, after which I taught psychology at the State University of New York, Rochester. I completed clinical training at the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles, then joined the psychology staff at the West L.A. VA Medical Center, where I had completed my predoctoral internship. I worked at the VA for 15 years, during the last 10 years of which I managed a program for veterans dually diagnosed with severe mental illness and chemical dependency. I was additionally engaged in research and served as Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA.
