Candace Young, Ph.D.
Candace Young, PhD. is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Portland, Oregon. In her practice she sees adult patients in psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and couples therapy. She has a small child psychology practice as well. She also provides clinical supervision for mental health professionals. She presently is on the faculties of Northwest Center for Psychoanalysis-Portland, the Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute, and Pacific University School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Young has been in clinical practice for over 35 years. Though she has for many years primarily worked with adults, she started her career with an internship at Boston Children’s Hospital, and worked intensively with children for a number of years. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, graduated from the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute’s Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program in 1982, co-directed the Child Development Project at the same institute in 1982-84, and later completed her adult psychoanalytic training at Northwest Center for Psychoanalysis-Portland.
