Cathy Goldfarb, Psy.D., LCSW
Cathy Goldfarb has been in the field many years. She began her social work career in community organization, group work, and administration and discovered that her passion was in working directly with individuals, couples, and families. Her specialty for over 30 years has been in working with older people and their families. Her agency experience also includes working with young children and their parents as well as adult children and their parents. Clinical supervision of licensed as well as prelicensed clinicians is an activity of particular interest. She has been mentored and trained in couples therapy and has extensive experience in working with families dealing with issues of elder care, grief and loss, and caregiving.
An area of interest is in understanding and working with shame states, which led her to concentrate on that subject in her graduation paper, “The Vicissitudes of Shame: An Exploration of Personal and Clinical Transformation.” Additional areas of interest include diversity, life transitions, and working through depression and anxiety. Her educational institute involvement has included serving as a facilitator in the Extension Program and serving on the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program commitee.
