Candidate Bio
Anne Thompson, Ph.D.
I am a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles and I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families. I specialize in treating individuals who struggle with self-defeating and destructive attitudes and behaviors, with special focus on body image and eating disorders.
Additional areas of clinical focus in my practice include relationship issues, grief and loss and the emotional challenges that accompany life transitions; for example, transition to college, adulthood, marriage, parenthood and mid-life.
My clinical orientation is primarily psychodynamic and largely informed by contemporary psychoanalytic theory; however, I integrate this approach with more active, cognitive-behavioral interventions as needed. What this means is that when treating a symptom or problem, I believe in directly intervening with the symptom, while at the same time understanding the meaning that symptom has for each person.
